MIS: Week 3 Lecture Reflection

Today in lecture, we learned about the internet.  The internet which seems simple now is actually extremely complicated.  It was discussed how the people use the internet but the internet also uses people.  It does this by using people's information.  With peoples information the internet can target ads, sales, and other information to the user.  The professor talked about an example using Uber.  Here he explained how Uber uses your phones battery percentage to adjust prices.  This process seems scary because it feels like an invasion of privacy.  This lesson is really important to understand because the internet is also using our information in ways that most people are not aware of.  Within the job world it is important for IT people to understand the power of the internet and use it to their advantage.  The internet is a powerful tool and from what we learned today I can see how I can use this when doing research to find more information on businesses for my group project.
